Cozy Up with This Classic Apple Crisp from Woodstock Orchards
When the air turns crisp and the leaves start to change here in Woodstock, Connecticut, it can only mean one thing—apple season at Woodstock Orchards has arrived. One of the most nostalgic (and delicious) ways to enjoy your harvest? This classic Apple Crisp recipe.
It’s sweet, buttery, and filled with just the right amount of cinnamon spice. Whether you're stopping by our farm stand in Woodstock CT or heading home after a day of picking your own apples, this is the perfect way to bring the warmth of fall into your kitchen.
Apple Crisp Recipe
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
6 cups peeled, sliced cooking apples (we love Cortland or McIntosh from our orchard)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon water
1½ cups firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose unbleached or self-rising flour
1 cup rolled oats
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup butter or margarine, melted
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Place sliced apples in an 8- or 9-inch square baking pan. Sprinkle with lemon juice and water.
In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and melted butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle mixture over the apples.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
Serving Tip: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. It’s also great cold the next morning—if there are leftovers!
Local Tip: Visit us during Connecticut apple picking season (September through early November) to grab the best baking varieties like Cortland, McIntosh, and Empire. We also offer pick-your-own apples in Woodstock CT, so you can make this crisp with apples you picked yourself!
